Due: December 2022
Principle: Leverages technology, and benchmarks guide decisions, improve results, enhance service delivery, and maintain the highest level of data security in support of City effectiveness, now and in the future.
Provides a well-maintained, fiscally responsible government that operates effectively and efficiently while identifying revenue requirements to sustain current service levels and achieve future requested levels of service.
The goal of this Strategic Result (SR) is to develop and implement a Smart City Framework to help us better leverage technology and enhance operations and services. This SR is being led by the Smart City Committee. In 2019 the Committee collaboratively identified a guiding definition of what it means for Arvada to be a "Smart City." The definition is as follows: Effectively applying Information and Communication Technology (ICT) components to enhance safety, inclusiveness, accessibility, resiliency, and sustainability within the community while aligning with the vision set by the City Council Strategic Plan.
We believe smart cities leverage technology and benchmarks to guide decisions, improve results, enhance service delivery, and maintain the highest level of data security in support of effectiveness, now and into the future. Our first step toward adopting a Smart City Framework was to identify and catalog current "smart" technology opportunities that exist within our performance measures. This collection of "smart achievements" will serve as a foundation for the development of the Smart City Framework by highlighting cross-work system opportunities to maximize success in a coordinated and systematic way.
By strategically refining our Smart City approach, we envision a community that is the best version of itself, using technology to equitably enhance the experiences of all within it, while sustaining the very character that makes Arvada the wonderful community that it already is.
In this effort, our smart city framework and action plan will build off of existing investments and achievements to ensure achievable results that efficiently address gaps in service provision.
The Smart City Committee is in the process of developing a draft of the Smart City Framework. The first draft of the Smart City Framework will be completed in Q1- 2020 and will include the following elements:
- A Focus on the Future - Alignment, definitions, vision, essential actions for success
- Our Smart Arvada Approach - "Smart Arvada" priority areas; Description of project development process; Project evaluation criteria and prioritization process
- Smart Arvada Action Plan - Identification of currently deployed or planned Smart Arvada projects; recommendations for priority initiatives.
Additionally, Committee leadership is identifying priority pilot projects for 2020 with the goal of deploying multiple technologies in Arvada this year. The small-scale implementation of new technology will help prove the viability and scalability of a number of innovation opportunities. This strategic result is currently on target.
